CAR and DRIVER Race Series '05-'06 Rulebook
1. Format
1.1 Event Description
The AutoX Challenge is a driving skill contest conducted on courses that emphasize car
handling and agility rather than speed or power. The course consists of straight sections
and connecting turns or corners, as marked by pylons, generally resembling a miniature
road course. If a driver displaces a pylon during a run a one second time penalty will be
assessed (cumulative for each pylon displaced). Failure to complete the course in the
correct order will result in a score of "Did Not Finish" (DNF). Each driver will get three
attempts on the AutoX Challenge with their best time counting toward the overall
score. The AutoX Challenge will make up 50% of the event raw score.
In the Skidpad Challenge drivers push their vehicle to its maximum cornering ability. The
Skidpad Challenge is circular and is marked with cones. If a driver displaces a pylon during a run
a one second time penalty will be assessed. The Skidpad Challenge will make up 25% of the event
raw score.
The Acceleration Challenge determines a vehicle's maximum acceleration
ability as well as a driver's reaction time and shifting speed. From a standing start,
drivers will accelerate to the finish line and must stop within the designated safety
area. If a driver exceeds the safety area the time will be disallowed. The Acceleration Challenge
will make up 25% of the event raw score.
2. Scoring
In each of the three elements, the fastest time for each class will receive a perfect
score. A perfect score on the AutoX Challenge will be valued at 50 points, while the
Skidpad Challenge and Acceleration Challenge will each carry point values of 25. Drivers
finishing in second place and below will receive a points value based upon the percentage
of the winning time they ran. A driver's score for any given challenge is determined by
dividing his or her time (including penalties) by the top time in the class and then multiplying the
points value for the element by the quotient. The table below demonstrates this scoring
method during a sample event.
| Acceleration Challenge |
| Driver | Raw Time | % of Leader | Raw Score |
| Driver One | 7.101 | 100 | 25 |
| Driver Two | 7.652 | 92.79 | 23.19 |

Final event scoring will factor in how many drivers in your class you defeated.
Drivers will receive a bonus point for each driver finishing behind them. For
example, in a 10 car class the winner would receive 9 bonus points while the
ninth place finisher would receive 1.

2.1 AutoX Challenge
2.1.1 A driver's top time, including penalties, will be used to determine their AutoX Challenge score.
2.1.2 Each displaced cone will carry a one second penalty.
2.1.3 If the driver fails to complete all elements of a course a "Did Not Finish" (DNF) penalty of ten seconds will be assessed.
2.1.4 If a driver fails to complete the course by significantly "short cutting" a section a "No Time" will be assessed.
2.1.5 A driver exiting the course and re-entering in the same location will not be scored with a DNF.
2.2 Skidpad Challenge
2.2.1 A driver's top single lap time, including penalties, will be used to determine the skid pad score.
2.2.2 Each displaced cone will carry a one second penalty.
2.3 Acceleration Challenge
2.3.1 A driver's top pass time, including penalties, will be used to determine the drag race score.
2.3.2 A "Red Light" run will carry a two second penalty.
2.3.3 Drivers exceeding the safety shut down area after the finish of the drag race will receive a "No Time" for their run.
2.4 Ties
2.4.1 Ties on individual course will remain as a tie and the drivers will each receive the same points value.
2.4.2 Ties in final event points will be broken based on the time from the AutoX challenge.
3. Championship
During the Car and Driver Race Series each driver's best one of their
first two event scores will count toward the class championship.
Drivers will be ranked by their point totals. The Championship event
will consist of one event with 100 points available. The drivers in
each class with the most points from the regular season and the
Championship event combined will be declared the Champion. If a class
is unattended at the Championship event a champion will not be
declared for that class.
4. Driver Participation
4.1 Driver Requirements
4.1.1 All Drivers must sign the current waiver form.
4.1.2 Drivers under the age of 18 must have a current "Minor Release and Waiver of Liability and Indemnity
Agreement" signed by his/her parent(s) or guardian. Other waiver forms may not be used.
4.1.3 All Drivers must have a valid Driver's License.
4.2 Driver Safety
4.2.1 Drivers are required to wear a SA90 or higher helmet and a minimum of original equipment safety belts.
4.2.2 Aftermarket shoulder harnesses are not allowed in convertibles without a roll bar.
4.3 Drivers in the Same Car
4.3.1 There may up to 2 Drivers competing in the same car per Run Group. Both drivers may compete in the same class.
4.3.2 A car may not have more than four drivers per event.
4.3.3 The same car may be entered in multiple classes provided it does not interfere with the established schedule. There is no guarantee the event schedule will accommodate multiple entries in the same car
4.4 Conduct
4.4.1 Drivers are ultimately responsible for their conduct and the conduct of their support personnel.
4.4.2 All participants are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated.
4.4.3 The use of alcohol or illegal drugs on site is prohibited. Any driver on prescription medication is encouraged to notify a Precision Racing Official.
4.4.4 Physical violence, verbal assault, and acts of intimidation will not be tolerated.
4.4.5 It is illegal to give, attempt to give, or to receive a bribe of any kind.
5. Vehicle Requirements
5.1 Classification
5.1.1 In order to be classed at least a 1000 models must be available, fully assembled, in the United States during a calendar year.
5.1.2 The Classics Class is intended for vehicles that do not meet the above requirements but are legal for street use. This would include kit, vintage, replica and special interest cars.
5.1.3 Vehicles such as full size SUVs, pick up trucks and vans may be excluded from competition due to an increased roll over risk
5.2 Modification
5.2.1 With the exception of the points modification claimed, cars are required to compete with all original specifications and equipment or replacement parts of identical specifications. Any part available as a factory option package may only be utilized if the entire package is in place and the package was available for that model year. Items typically replaced regularly and bearing no significance on performance such as light bulbs or fasteners (nuts, bolts) may be replaced but not removed. Replacing or modifying bolts such as suspension bolts for the purpose of gaining a performance advantage is strictly forbidden without a manufacturer's part number.
5.2.2 It is the driver's responsibility to properly classify their car. Any and all classification assistance given by Precision Racing Officials or by the Precision Racing Organization Web site should not be taken as final word. While great effort is made to ensure all questions are answered correctly, competitors are strongly encouraged to properly research any classification issue.
5.2.3 A non-standard part is considered to be any part that is not available on the vehicle as original equipment. This includes but is not limited to dealer options, such as wheels and appearance kits, aftermarket products and home built modifications. Simply, if it is the original vehicle configuration, it is considered non-standard.
5.2.4 Non-Standard parts listed in the classification works sheet should be viewed within the narrowest definition. Not to say there is not room for interpretation and creativity, but, for example, a supercharger is never a cold air intake, regardless of air temperature.
5.2.5 Compound modifications carry the points value for all aspects of the modification, unless specifically allowed within the modification worksheet. For example, a normally aspirated vehicle that has had a motor out of a turbo charged car must carry the points for both the non-standard motor as well as the induction system.
5.3 Technical Inspection
5.3.1 In order for a car to be deemed fit for competition, it must pass an inspection of the following items by a Precision Racing Official:
a. The passenger compartment must be free of loose objects
b. All exterior trim items must be secure
c. Hub caps must be removed
d. Wheels must be secure (lug nuts and hub bolt are tight)
e. Wheels must be free of structural damage (cracks, breaks, etc)
f. Tires may not show cord
g. Tires must have measurable tread depth
h. Seatbelts, seats, pedals, and steering wheel must be properly installed and functional
i. Two-strap shoulder harnesses may not be worn in open cars which are not equipped with roll bars
j. Helmets must have a rating of SA/M 90 or newer
k. Knobs or spinners on the steering wheel are not allowed
l. The brake pedal should be firm and the fluid reservoir should be full
m. Batteries must be secure
n. Cars must be free of leaks
o. All caps and fluid lines must be attached properly and secure
p. There must be an active throttle return (spring)
q. All suspension, steering, and hub components should be fully functional and secure
r. Exhaust systems may not terminate forward of the driver
5.3.2 Precision Racing Organization holds the right to deem a car unfit for competition.
5.3.3 Once a car exits the technical inspection area no changes to the car may be made unless approved by a Precision Racing Official. Changes will only be approved in the event of a mechanical failure or a dramatic change in weather or course conditions.

*The points and method of shock attachment may not be altered.
*Stock bushings that allow for multi-axis motion by the compliance of the component material may not be replaced by a bushing of a differing type
that would allow such motion.
*No part of the car may be altered to install a sway bar with the exception of drilled holes for mounting bolts.
Allowances
The hole of the upper shock mount may be enlarged no more than the amount necessary to accommodate a larger shock shaft.
This may not effect alignment or suspension geometry.
Variances in ride height caused by altering the dynamic characteristics rather than the hardware of the shocks are allowed.
For the purposes of modifications, bushings and end links are considered part of the sway bar.
Free Modifications
Alignment settings are unrestricted provided that the standard suspension parts are not bent, shimmed, cut or modified
in any manor unless it is expressly permitted by the manufacturer as a repair procedure.
Crash bolts, shims, modified mounting holes or other methods of repair that are issued or referenced by the manufacturer may be used. If the specifications of the part or
modification are ambiguous the maximum alignment specification as set by the manufacturer will determine compliance.
Shock absorber bushings may be made of any material.
Any sway bar bushing material may be used.
Cars with lever type shocks may substitute tube type.
